The Bosnian organisation Centar za Kulturu Dijaloga (CCD) organised local competitions and trainings on the justice system and youth violence in four different cities in November 2013. The trainings and comeptition reached out to established debate schools and new schools and had a total of 212 high school and university students participating.

The Bosnian organisation Centar za Kulturu Dijaloga (CCD) organised three demonstration debates in October on European topics. The debates took place in Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla on the 31st of October and attracted students and teachers from several schools. The debates aimed to teach the basics of Karl Popper debating, to provide an introduction to building argumentation and to give participants an understanding of the differences between debating and discussions.

Participating youth from the youth work organisation R-Newt organised a public debate for the European Social Innovation Week together with youth workers and entrepreneurs from the project PathFinders. The debate took place in the Tilburg Club Smederij on the 20th of September. About a dozen young people and twenty-five entrepreneurs, policy makers, youth workers and local politicians witnessed and participated in a debate with a panel of three young people and three entrepreneurs.

The exclusion of African youth in the Netherlands has become a burning issue. A recent Amnesty International report on ethnic profiling demonstrates that humiliating stop-and-search police practices apply predominantly to people of African and Northern African appearance. The Dutch National Ombudsman Alex Brenninkmeijer also warns of widespread discrimination and exclusion, and the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights reports that discrimination rates are highest against the Sub-Saharan and North African migrants.

Wageningen Debating and IDEA NL organised a meeting about the Inclusion of African youth in Europe. Members of the debating society, students in Development Studies and a number of youth with African backgrounds attended the training, keynote speech and discussion. It was the third preview debate for the IDEA NL project on this topic.

We cordially invite you to come one of four public debates that IDEA NL and its partners organise to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (17 October). The debates all deal with this year's theme: "Working together towards a world without discrimination." The public debates are on different dates and will be part of the larger project about the inclusion of African youth in Europe that IDEA NL is organising in October and November.  The discussions will look at how dealing with discrimination of one group can benefit the whole society.
