IDEA Aitmatov Cup (21st -25th September)

IDEA Aitmatov Cup (21st -25th September)

IDEA is hosting it’s biggest ever tournament, bringing together more than 250 students from ten countries to compete for the Aitmatov Cup on the shores of lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.

The Russian-speaking tournament will be looking at themes of security and liberty from a Central Asian perspective.

The cup is named after Chingiz Aitmatov, a famous Kyrgyz writer who was described in the Guardian newspaper as “A communist true-believer,” but one who “never shied away from exploring and exposing in his prose the darkest aspects of Soviet reality”. Aitmatov was also a diplomat who set up an international think-tank, the Issyk-Kul Forum.

In addition to competitive rounds, the Aitmatov Cup will also feature workshops for debaters and judges by expert trainers and adjudicators. There will also be plenty of opportunities for informal learning and intercultural exchanges.

The Tournament will be organized in British Parliamentary Format. For more information please
