Team USA Hunter College High School have snatched victory in the Grand Final of the Karl Popper Debate Championship at the IDEA Youth Forum in Istanbul. Debating the motion – Should All States Immediately Ratify The UN Resolution On Migrants And Their Families? – Bram Wasti, Fiona Lowenstein and Diana Li beat runners-up, the Academy Higher of Learning from California.
“We had a tough competition,” said Wasti, “Especially against Uganda in the quarter-finals. In the final it was very finely split.”
Fiona Lowenstein said the team did not normally work together or debate in the Karl Popper format - but that they had added to each other skills in crucial areas. Fiona Lowenstein and Diana Li competed together at the Youth Forum last year but lost to the UK.
