Africa Works Conference: plant your IDEA

IDEA Netherlands (NL) launched its Debate Tree at the Africa Works conference on the 16th and 17th of October. It offers a new method to let debate and conference visitors’ thoughts grow. About 100 visitors of the Africa Works conferences watered the tree with their ideas.

Debate in the neighborhood project in Macedonia

Twenty seven debaters from four cities in Macedonia demonstrated their argumentation skills at a public debate event, held on Saturday, January 31st at hotel Ilinden in Strumica. This was a part of a three day event organized between Thursday, January 29th and Sunday, February 1st, as the final activity within the Debate in the Neighbourhood project of IDEA Southeast Europe. The 'Debate in the Neighbourhood” project started in January 2014, featuring more than 100 young Roma highschool and university students, between the ages of 15 and 25.

Balkan Youth Newsroom – BYN is a regional project that will be implemented in Stip, Macedonia, Nis, Serbia and in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Hercegovina in the period between January and December 2015.

The BYN project includes 60 young people from these three Balkan countries. There will be 20 participants from each of the three countries, divided in at least four groups, depending on the newsrooms’ availability in Stip, Nis and Sarajevo. All participants will be working in local media newsrooms - partners of the project. Each group will work in the newsroom at least two days a week during at least one whole month.

Art & Design for Advocacy 2015

Over 50 youth from Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia came together to learn how art can influence advocacy to solve their burning societal issues. From comic strips, and data visualization to graffiti and stencils, they learnt how to use different art techniques during the Art and Design for Advocacy training which took place in Ohrid, Macedonia from 22-28 June 2015.

Organized by IDEA United Kingdom, the workshop is a part of the larger Art & Design for Advocacy program, pioneered in the Balkans by IDEA Southeast Europe, who provided lectures in street art (Goran Kostovski), history and evolution of comics (Boshko Karadzov, PhD) and messaging and advocacy (Marjan Stojnev).

The 5th IDEA International Aitmatov Debate Academy took place on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, Kyrgyzstan, from 21 to 27 March, 2016. About a hundred participants selected from 7 countries of CIS and the Baltics: Estonia Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan participated in the event this year.
