Team Constitution

Similar to the team mission statement described above, students can work individually, in small groups or all-together in order to help create an identity for the team. This time, however, instead of creating a mission statement they are working to create a longer team constitution which is designed to guide the operation and the leadership of the team. Each constitution should address several questions.

What is the leadership of the team? How is the leadership selected and replaced? How does the team record its activities and decisions? How does the team get and spend money? How does the team change its own policies, including this constitution?

Once several versions of the constitution are prepared, students can present and compare them with facilitation from the instructor. Note that this is not only an exercise in team management, but also one in democratic government. Ideally, by accepting parts of several different proposed constitutions, the instructor could facilitate the creation of an actual constitution for the team.
