Peace of Utrecht Debate

The Peace of Utrecht and IDEA NL will organise a debate around the response of young students from Utrecht province on European developments. The debate will take place at September 21 in Center of Art trecht (CBKU). The event is directly related to the opening of the exposition of the Belgium photographer, Fillip Berte ' The Dark Side of Europe'  (see www.eutopia.be) in CBKU. The students will debate about upcoming populism as a threath to democracy. What is the role of the state in this, the media, the European Union? The students will view the IKON documentaries ' Populism in Europe'  as preparation material. Yvonne Heselmans, director of IDEA NL, will moderate the debate. The debate will be judged by Filip Berte and Anne Valkering, former World Champion debater and program officer at IDEA NL. The best debaters will be selected for the European Youth Event 'Debate@Europe'  which will be organised by IDEA NL from 29 November until 2 December in Amsterdam.
