In my opinion homework should only be unfinished classwork; this then assures that everyone in the class is at the same point when the next lesson starts. This also makes it less likely the student will encounter anything that has not been covered already in the class so reducing the chance of having problems completing the assignment.

On the other hand a complete ban on homework would mean that there is not a possibility of time for slower students (not necessarily less able) to catch up with the work of their peers meaning they get further and further behind. The alternative is having the faster ones either doing more (not very fair) or doing nothing (so being bored) neither of which is a good option.

We would like to let u know that what you mentioned as slow students, if they didn't have homework they would have more time to cope up with his peers and cariculum, also the "faster students" need not get bored. Just cause few children are slow doesn't mean you interfear with the system in a whole. Also to let you know, "homework" does not mean unfinished classwork ,it mean additional work! Which I (Yash) am against.
