The whole concept of this debate seems to be biased to me; the premise is that the republicans are not to be trusted with the economy therefore implying the democrats are more trustworthy when it comes to the economy. This to me seems to be very unbalanced and should at least be balanced out by other debates such as 'dont trust the democrats on national security'.

The bias in the title is presumably to counteract an existing bias in perception that the Republicans are the party of economic competance. As soon as you bring in party to the title then you inevitably bring in bias too! However, trust the Republicans or trust the Democrats with the economy is more or less a moot point, they dont run the economy, the economy runs them.

You could get around that by having both parties in the title. How about 'This house would trust the democrats over the republican with the economy' This would then mean that if opposition wins the debate then the republicans are more trusted than the democrats.

It is not true that 'the economy runs them' surely the results would have been different if there had been a republican president who was unwilling to use a stimulus? How different the result would be we dont know but at least some things would be different; lower national debt? slower growth? Collapse of industries such as automobiles?

I dont really think it gets rid of my objection to the debate title - the emphasis is still on the republicans being untrustworthy on economic issues.
