Given the situation that individual no longer rationale towards what they do to themselves, it is indeed necessary to save that person life, even if forces must be in place.
These so called sick people, they have no idea they are straying away the appropriate diet routine in order to stay alive healthily. Hence aids should be given.

Does this still apply if they gave their position not to be force fed while still lucid/rational some months before? Can we just automatically say that all people who are starving themselves in the quest for a body they want are not rational?

Ridiculous. Eating disorders aren't solely about FOOD. They are about the emotions, thoughts, and fears that those with eating disorders associate with food. Force feeding an anorexic would scar them and ruin the recovery process. Those who suffer from eating disorders need to learn normalized eating. The recovery process takes 2-11 years. Force feeding would be catastrophic.

Sorry it appears the link was broken - I have now fixed it. This relates to a particular debate and is about whether force feeding should be used when the life of the sufferer is in danger not any idea that it might be a cure.

By force feeding you are saving the patients life with the risk of the patient being at a very low weight and developing the condition Hypophosphatemia which could then make their health state even worse than it was to begin with. It is easy to judge and say that the individual brought it on themselves without even putting into consideration the mental health side of it. I think that the health risks of force feeding are risks that have to be taken in order to save their life, its 50/50. If you dont force feed the patient, they're at risk of dying... If you do force feed the patient, they are at risk of developing Hypophosphatemia. Its a loosing battle but has to be dealt with. The health side of the condition has to be seen to first and then the mental side can be dealt with after. If possible the condition should be dealt with early on, mentally before the admission into hospital is made and there then would be no need to force feed but i do believe it is difficult to diagnose the condition early on as an anorexia sufferer would be in denial and continue to be in denial when they are critically ill.
I'm all for force feeding in order to save lives!
