While I can see that nations

While I can see that nations would like to keep parts of their past secret in order to prevent the tarnishing of their reputations and any knock on effects that may result (reduced diplomatic options, damaged regime credibility etc) in practice there is even less reason for this when it comes to things in the past than in the present. At least when it comes to operations there are good safety arguments, something that is not the case when attempting to keep the past secret.
