In what way are humans much more important than animals? You give no basis for how you reached this conclusion. You mention the 'worth to the world' I rather suspect that given the amount of damage we do to the world if the world was sentient it would consider our worth to it considerably less than those other animals that just do as they always did without digging great holes in the ground, blowing up immense bombs, exterminating other species, changing the climate etc.

I partly disagree with you. First, humans are not “much more important than the animals in the sense of their worth to the world.” What did human do to the environment, or the world to benefit it? We polluted tons of contaminant to the water every year, every 60 second a soccer-field large forest will disappear; there are 12 kinds of species become extinct every day. However, for sure that human needs animals to test the newly invented things, especially the new medicine, because the danger is extreme. That’s the function of the lab rats, even though, I still think that human used lab rats too much. For example, some companies use rats to test the perfume they make. It totally unnecessary since there is no serious danger for human to try that, but the lab rats are too weak to afford the perfume. So in general, I think human should only do animal testing in medical aspect.

'inhumane' I assume the very word comes from 'human' which is something they are not. Ultimately we seem to care more about our own species and seem to take the view that if we can save lives of humans due to animal testing then that is a good thing.

If you wouldn't hurt your best friend then why would you let someone hurt an animal? The well-known quote "A dog is a man's best friend" applies in this situation. Many animals create strong bonds with their owners or just humans in general. This testing is done so that humans know if a product is safe or not. If a product needs to be tested then how safe are the chemicals in it- not very safe. Approximately 104,000 animals have had painful testing done and were not giving any type of remedy to stop the pain. This tells us that although some animals are given medicine many are not. They are suffering at the expense of a new shampoo or the latest nail polish. Animals are being put to the test because of our consumer ways. Animal testing is very wrong and should be banned as soon as possible.

Are you a vegan? If not why not - when eating animals you are causing more than hurt to an animal, you are killing it. I think that this debate is linked with all other animal "rights" debates whether they are about the concept, testing, eating them, or using them in sport. We would do none of these things to other humans so if we consider animals the same then we would not do this to animals.
But the fact is we dont consider animals equal to humans. Animals themselves accept they are in a 'dog eat dog world' (to continue your theme) and seem happy to kill each other and that is what we are; the top predator. We have always used animals and there is nothing wrong with this. It is no more wrong to test animals for diseases or whether products will harm humans than it is to eat them.

yes ! the entire debate is linked to "animal rights" in all aspects ( eating , testing , sports ) .
and we demand rights for animals in every single aspect . the concept of 'dog eat dog world" is an old and antiquated concept which we dont want to continue on with now that we have enterd the new age which includes development not only in science and technology but also in our understanding for rights of all other living things around us . we understand that the eco system is made not only of us humans but also all other animals who might not have the required instruments to express themselves . surely , testing and all is important for the development of medicine and for the benefit of humans but then science has also evolved enough for all of us to know that animals can feel too ! true , we had used animals in the past to move forward but then the humans were at the earlyman/neandthral stage where our minds were limited to a few emotions - territory , food and mating .. surely the human mind and conscience has evolved a lot more than that and so we cannot continue with the primeval idea of eating and exploiting animals howsoever we want !

humans are much more important than animals in the sense of their worth to the world. one reason why animals should be tested on is that they could help find cures for serion dizeazes like aids and cancer if we stop animal testing the results on our medical community could be devistating we could end up with much less information than we would have or maybe the next epademic wont be prevented.
