The situation in the United Kingdom is rather different from many other states around the world when it comes to the seperation of Church and State. No other country (with the exception of the Vatican) has their national church at the heart of such a large community. This provides a major incentive to keep Church and State together that does not exist in other countries.
Something not mentioned in the debate is the overlap between the Anglican Church and the Commonwealth. The Anglican Church expanded immensly during the British Empire to countries that were a part of the empire. Today many of these countries still have large anglican communities. Is there a link between the Queen being head of the Commonwealth and head of the Church?
