IDEA MENA

Radhouan Mejri

Executive Director

Radhouan Mejri joined IDEA in April 2014 to lead the newly established Middle East & North Africa office. He is a young Tunisian with experience in projects, events and conferences management.

Prior to joining IDEA, Rad has worked as Projects Manager for the British Council in Tunisia. He is also an experienced trainer and facilitator, having delivered trainings and workshops for more than five years. His main areas of expertise include debate skills development, leadership development, strategic planning and personal development.

Rad has also been active in the civil society sector for many years, engaging in different initiatives to promote youth participation, gender equality and the implementation of a culture of dialogue in the MENA region.

Malek Msahel

Communications Manager

Malek graduated in Marketing. He has experience in media and communication, news production and events management.

He has worked with several organizations in communications and project management. He was the Communications Manager of Electoral Reform International Services branch in Tunisia and worked on promoting its project on elections targeting youth.  Malek worked also for the Arab Center for Citizenship and Democracy, which is a regional organization based in Tunisia that aims to promote democratic values and peaceful management of conflict, through dialogue and the promotion of social peace.

Malek is a former debater and a debate trainer. He participated in several regional events on leadership development and debate training. He has a good understanding of youth issues within the region and a good knowledge of Tunisian civil society since he has been working in close collaboration with civil society organizations in several of his jobs. He has a special interest in capacity building and community development. 

Hamza Kaabar

Regional Programs Manager

A committed young professional specialised in Facilitating, Training Delivery and Project Management. Spent the last few years working for and with Civil Society organisations focusing on local and international development.

Hamza worked as Projects Manager at British Council Tunisia, responsible for Society projects leading mainly on the Young Arab Voices Programme. He is also the current curator for Global Shapers community Tunis Hub, the initiative of the world economic forum.

He has an experience in developing programmes and projects for local and international organisations with a focus on Youth Participation and capacity building contributing in short, mid and long-term agendas. His experience also involves Training Delivery revolving around Public Speaking, Debating and Leadership, which he considers a passion. 

Omar Doukali

Project Manager

Omar Doukali is a Tunisian-Serbian citizen with a good experience in marketing and events and projects management and considers himself as a Global Citizen as he wanders around and had many connections around the world.

Prior to joining IDEA, Omar was a member and a Vice President in AIESEC for two years where he developed his leadership and marketing skills. Also he forged his project management skills holding different positions at different companies such as Dimension 5, SPROX Prod. Omar is expert in Marketing and project management and he has the sense of engagement that make him wants to push the boundaries and strive for a better self and a better environment.

Omar has cofounded an online platform called Experience Tunisia to promote the country using new and different methods. Also he worked in a Serbian organization as a volunteer called Serbia for Youth and experienced a different culture through educational and cultural exchange programs

IDEA Central Asia

Maya Kim

Executive Director

Maya joined the IDEA network to lead the office in Central Asia in February 2014. She has 10 years of experience working in a number of programs and projects with OSF, the UN and ADB that have promoted development and reform in the region.

Having completed her bachelor studies in International and Comparative Politics in the American University in Central Asia, she earned her MA degree with merit from the Central European University, Program of Nationalism Studies. 

Aizada Toktogulova

Media Coordinator

Aizada graduated from the International Relations Department, Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.

She has been working in marketing for several years. 

She has experience in the promotion of social projects in different spheres: the problems of driving drunk, active forms of recreation, an information & advocacy campaign for a project supporting people with disabilities. 

She writes articles for magazines and online media.

Julie Buchwald

Program Development Manager

Julie joined our IDEA CA office in March 2015 as Project Development Manager. She has extensive experience in fundraising and project development and has worked for organizations such as EFCA and Soros Foundation. She is also a recognized trainer for intercultural interactions and has successfully developed course material on cross-cultural competency.

Milan, Italy is where she completed both her Bachelor and Master degrees. She has a Bachelor in Intercultural Mediation and Linguistics for which she achieved the highest possible grades. In 2012 she finished her Masters degree in International Cooperation and Development, also receiving top marks. 

Shavkat Abdujabarov

Program Officer

 

Shavkat joined the IDEA CA office in May 2015 as a Program Officer. He has professional experience in education and development sectors. Before joining IDEA CA, Shavkat was working at the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) as a Project Manager where he has been leading the youth-focused community development initiatives.

Shavkat has a Master's degree in Capital Markets and Financial Institutions from Istanbul University, and a Bachelors degree in World Economy and Political Science (honours) from Bishkek Humanities University.  He has attended numerous conferences, trainings and summer schools sponsored by educational institutions and organizations in Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Israel and Germany.

Sabira Djamakeeva

Accountant

Sabira has joined IDEA CA as an Accountant in October 2014.   She graduated from the Economic Relations Department, Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University. She has been working as an accountant for more than ten years.

All free time Sabira spends with her little daughter. Also she likes to travel with friends, listen to music, and do sport.

Aijana Boronbaeva

Administrative Assistant

Aijana is working in IDEA CA part time since 2013 and has been involved in debate activities since 2011 as a volunteer. She is currently getting her bachelor degree in Computer Engineering. She participated in organizing more than ten big events including seminars: “Youth in XXI Century: Debating and Producing Media” 2012, 2013, 2014; Aitmatov International Debate Academy 2012, 2013, 2014; Asia Youth Forum 2013; Training of Trainers 2014, “Debate and Theatre Workshop”.

She is a winner of several local debate tournaments and a winner of international Asian Development Bank - Asia Youth Forum in English. She spends her free time playing guitar, violin and taking part in debate tournaments.

Beksultan Rustamov

Program Assistant

Beksultan joined IDEA CA team in 2013 as a volunteer, and became a part time Program Assistant in 2014.

Beksultan has been involved in debate for a long time and served as Bishkek Debate Center Coordinator.

He is a certified debate trainer, a coordinator of "Open Society Debates" TV project. He participated in organizing numerous IDEA CA activities:  “Youth in the XXI Century: Debating and Producing Media”, Aitmatov International Debate Academy, Asia Youth Forum 2013; “Debate and Theatre Workshop”, Trainings of Trainers, Open Society Debates. Beksultan also works as radio DJ and TV anchor.

Yvonne Heselmans

Executive Director

Yvonne became Executive Director of IDEA-NL in February 2011, after having been a member of the IDEA-NL Advisory Board for two years. Her expertise is in the field of human rights and peace building in Africa. Previously she worked as a program manager at Pax Christi for Sudan and was a senior advisor at Plan Nederland.

Joost Leys

Progam Officer for Mind Your Wallet

Joost Leys was born and raised in Belgium. At an early age his family moved to Antwerp and he has lived there ever since.

After finishing his studies as a social cultural worker, he took up an active role in organizations that prevent violence in the family; promote peace and understanding as well as organizations that attempt to bridge the digital gap.

Joost will be working on the ‘Mind Your Wallet’ project to encourage young people with few opportunities to participate in the debates that will determine their financial future. 

 

Anne Valkering

International Program Manager

Anne is a debate veteran who ran the European Debating Championship in 2010 and has been active in debating since 2002. She represented Bonaparte Amsterdam among others in the quarterfinal of the Berlin European Universities Debating Championships (Euros) in 2006 and won the English as a Second Language final at Thailand Worlds in 2008.

Roeland Hemsteede

Program Officer

Roeland joined IDEA NL early 2013 to support a project focused on the Inclusion of African Youth in Europe. He has a background in African Studies and is an avid competitive debater and enjoys making people enthusiastic about debating.  His main interests are the (socio-economic) inclusion of marginalised people in societies.

Mite Kuzevski

Executive Director / Media and Online Community Manager

Mite has had a long history of working as an Online Media Consultant and a Social Media Strategist for the OSF Youth Initiative. Over the past five years, Mite has worked extensively within the IDEA and OSF networks to make the world of debate closer to the people outside of the debate circuit and debate communities through innovative use of online tools and media.

A noted social media expert, Mite is currently serving as the Media & Online Community Manager.

Daniel Janev

Design & Branding

Daniel has been active in the field of freelancing and full-time for more than 8 years. He has worked in many marketing agencies for the biggest Macedonian brands, and for clients worldwide. In recent years he has been specializing in logo design, corporate branding and visual identities.

Vasil Grozdanoski

Web Developer

As a soon to be master of software engineering, Vasil has been working in many different positions and projects in web and application development, computer administration, ITSM, lifelong learning and e-learning implementation.  Over the past years he has been working in various local IT companies and organizations, as well as with worldwide known web portals like worldcrunch.com.

Filip Dzukleski

Back-End Web Developer

Filip has working experience with system administration, database design and administration, web development and software development (mainly Java and Android), and as a Security Consultant, configuring and maintaining servers (Apache, pg/mySQL, Samba, FTP, Asterisk, etc.), Windows and Linux server installation and configuration, etc. Since his high school days he has been working on web projects mainly as a Freelancer. After graduation he was included in several big projects, like software development for the city of Skopje, planning, coding and implementing a custom made CMS for a globally recognized news aggregator, making the first Macedonian business social network and several others. He is looking forward to getting his Master's Degree in Software Development this year.

Goran Igic

Director of Development

Goran has a long history of working as a Journalist, Editor and Project Manager. For a period of five years he has been working as a journalist for several national print and electronic media in Macedonia. After leaving journalism, he continued to write for several online local and regional media and worked for five years as a Project Manager within the NGO Habitat for Humanity Macedonia. He has more than four years of experience working with youth within the Youth in Action Programme and he is a member and founder of several youth and youth umbrella organizations in the country and abroad.

In 2012, he was a Digital Storytelling trainer at “Youth in 21st Century: Debating and Producing Media, Aghveran, Armenia” Camp, organized by OSI Armenia.

Ljubica Grozdanovska Dimishkovska

Project Coordinator

For more than ten years, Ljubica worked as a journalist for several domestic and foreign media, including for the BBC and Transitions Online. Since 2005,  Ljubica is active in the civil society sector, working as an editor, project proposal writer and project coordinator for several Macedonian NGOs focused on human rights, particularly on Roma issues, local media development and organizing public and radio debates. In the last three years, she authored the Nations in Transit report for Freedom House.

In 2007, Ljubica established BID consulting, offering services as a Communication and PR specialist to various organizations, institutions and businesses. She is a Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States of America. Ljubica also has training and teaching experience, including teaching History of Journalism at the Faculty of Journalism in Skopje.  Ljubica holds a Journalism and Communications Bachelor’s Degree.

IDEA United Kingdom

Mathew Corbett

Executive Director

Mathew joined the IDEA Network in March 2014. He has twenty years senior management experience in the strategic leadership, development and implementation of innovative learning and youth programs to engage the socially excluded. 

He has a strong track record of securing funding to work with marginalised groups from the Skills Funding Agency, European Social Fund, Erasmus, Jobcentre Plus, London Development Agency,  Offenders' Learning and Skills Service and charitable foundations.  He currently sits on the Advisory Board of an award winning charity and a social enterprise working with excluded groups in the UK to develop enterprise skills.

Before joining the IDEA network team, Mathew worked as Community Regeneration Director for a central London college in the U.K.  His background and skills in business development, education management and international partnership are an asset to the network. 

Graduate with honours from the University of Essex, Mathew has a BA in History. He is a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) and a Associate Fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs. 

He has a keen interest in current affairs, social justice, eInclusion, experiential learning and finally good coffee. 

Alexander Helling

Programmes Manager

Alex is in charge of developing, managing, monitoring and evaluating the programmes run by IDEA UK. He has experience of project management and the development of systems to track deliverables, outputs and outcomes. He also works on administration, finance, and communications. 

Alex is also the Editor of the Debatabase. He is in charge of commissioning new Debatabase debates as well as editing and increasing the quality of debates on the site. Alex joined IDEA in January 2011, having previously worked for Debatewise for two years. He has an identical twin brother who sometimes appears in the office to confuse us. Alex holds a Master’s degree in Diplomacy from Nottingham University, UK.
